{Game Review} PopTag a.k.a. (Crazy Arcade BnB)

Post by Emil Castagnier on Mon Feb 15, 2010 7:53 pm

Intro
Back in 1987, Bomberman became one of the first multiplayer games on the NES. Later, the Bomberman franchise would continue becoming the pinnacle of multiplayer games. Then in 2003, Korean video game developer Nexon made Crazy Arcade. Originally, it was supposed to have 5 games: Bz, Dizzy Pang, Tetris, Hidden Catch, and the popular BnB (PopTag in the USA). BnB is a twist to Bomberman since instead of using bombs, this game uses water balloons. Due to BnB's success, the other four were removed and thus made BnB standalone.

Gameplay
PopTag has two modes, PvP and Monster. PvP is similar to Bomberman. However, unlike in Bomberman where one hit from the fire blast kills you, a hit from the water blast will trap you in a bubble so the opponent will pop it. You can also die if you stay in the bubble too long. There are also powerups to aid you. The powerups are similar to Bomberman's but with a few differences. (Example: The turtle is similar to Louibe but slower only if its green).
Monster Mode is a co-op version of Bomberman but no exit. Here, you fight a viarety of enemies (in some stages they reuse some enemies). Also, at the final board of the stage there is a boss.
You can go into the shop and buy items with Lucci, NX Prepaid, or NX Credit. Also there is a town you can explore and play Ja Ken Po.

Graphics
Not much to say though, but they're great.

[color=red]Overall
Despite its flaws, its still a great game.

Pros
-Good controls
-Great gameplay
-Cutesy graphics
-Town is greatly implemented
Cons
-Lack of minigames in Town

NOTE: This is not my best review since it is short but the next review will be a bit better.
