I admit, they are skinny and more humanoid than any other Sonic character, not to mention more mature contented.

You know, that this doesn't have to be exactly as the Sonic games...Your arguments are in fact wrong...
The character (physical appearance) is inspired in Sonic, but the rest doesn't have to be...
So...get some other arguments to prove your point.

Oh my god, seriously... I think it looks great, but it doesn't always have to resemble a Sonic style! I draw Sonic in many different styles! If Renegade wants them skinny, then she can make them skinny! Imo, it looks awesome, the background is way better than something i'd dig up! But really, not everything Sonic has to resemble him... -_-

Thanks, although credit for the background goes to GIMP. I didn't just use filters here and there, but there's no way I could do that without layers and layers and even more layers, plus smudge function.

It's really simple once you get to it. Layers are simply the key to making good scenes with foregrounds (characters) and backgrounds (for example trees).

Layers are like different, transparent paper sheets, one in front of the other, and another in front of that one, and so on. That way, whatever you draw in the layer in the back will be behind whatever you draw in the front layer.

layers can make coloring very useful and change the atmosphere of the pic. C:
Typically your lines will be above the layers you use to color on. So it'd be like:

Lineart
Color 1 (fur color)
Color 2 (muzzle color)
Color 3 (eye color)

and that way as you tackle coloring each part 1 by one, they won't mess with eachother and you can do it easily. lol
I use layer clips to shade, but thats another story...

Not to mention if something goes wrong with for example clothes, you just fix it without affecting the body you drew in the previous layer, for example =)

Now most of you know that I tend to change what kind of animal Zora really is, well it's simply because if I don't try new things, I might miss the most fitting one. In this picture, she's a panther. Cheos (green dude) is a lion, he recently changed because according to some people echidnas shouldn't exist in the fanverse since "knuckles is the last" or whatever. (Mention Shade and they'll go "Chronicles wasn't canon!")
Anyway, the picture of Cheos was made several years ago by the owner of Cheos, so it's mediocre, but I just like the picture so I used it. The background was made entirely in GIMP.
Oh, and just so no one misunderstands: No, she's not gonna eat him, they're friends and she's just sneaking up on him to give him a scary wake-up =)

I don't hate them, they just follow their piece of logic, but I sure find it silly when they go with "Shade doesn't count, Chronicles wasn't canon!" like as if fan characters were canon...
